Dumbbell WODs: CrossFit & Functional Fitness Workouts

Choose a dumbbell WOD by time, training goal and difficulty. This collection uses WOD Fever's workout database to surface sessions that require dumbbells, with scaling guidance and options that work in a garage gym, commercial gym or travel setup.

How to choose a dumbbell WOD

Dumbbells are most useful when the workout combines a small number of repeatable movement patterns instead of exhausting one joint or muscle group immediately. For conditioning, pair a dumbbell movement with simple bodyweight work. For strength endurance, use a load you can control through repeated hinges, squats and presses without losing position.

One dumbbell or two?

You do not need a matching pair for every session. Many movements can be performed with one dumbbell and alternating sides. When a workout calls for two dumbbells, reduce to one and alternate sides if that better matches the equipment you have.

Use the finder well

Choose a workout by stimulus-not novelty

A useful workout fits the time and equipment you actually have, but it should also support the training effect you need. Conditioning sessions emphasize sustained output, engine sessions build repeatable aerobic work, strength-endurance sessions pair loaded movements with manageable volume, and skill sessions reward movement quality before speed.

Pick a realistic duration

The listed time is the working portion. Add enough time to warm up, prepare equipment, rehearse movements, and cool down.

Scale before you start

Choose loads and movement variations that preserve the intended pace. Scaling is successful when it keeps the training effect intact.

Repeat useful workouts

Random variety is not progress by itself. Save strong matches and repeat them periodically to measure pacing, capacity, and movement quality.
