Choose a strongman log by the event or movement you need to practice, then check whether its empty weight and handling requirements fit your gym. Titan’s 8-, 10- and 12-inch rackable logs differ in more than barrel diameter. Titan explicitly says these logs are not meant to be dropped on the floor.
Comparisons are based on manufacturer specifications and published product information checked October 22, 2026. We have not conducted hands-on testing. Recommendations are editorial judgments about fit and use. Prices are dated US equipment examples; tax, delivery, installation and extras can change the total.

Barrel size changes the clean and rack position
The barrel sits in front of the body and surrounds the neutral hand grips. A larger cylinder changes the relationship between the body, grip and implement as it is cleaned and supported. A smaller diameter is not automatically “beginner size,” and a larger diameter is not simply an upgrade. Match competition equipment where that is the goal.
The 8-inch model starts 34 lb lighter than the 12-inch. Its handle centers are also closer together. If you cannot control the empty implement through the intended movement, the sleeve capacity is irrelevant. Titan publishes a 1,000 lb rating for each of these logs; that is a manufacturer load claim, not an instruction for training or dropping.
Compare the handle opening and forearm clearance for your grip. Published handle length does not certify comfort for every person or grip width. We do not repeat the listing’s shoulder-pain reduction language as a proven health outcome.
Rackable means verify the support zone
Titan says the logs rack on most standard power racks, but the retrieved tables do not provide a complete usable J-cup support-zone drawing. Overall length and loadable sleeve length are not enough to certify every rack. Subtracting the sleeves can give a rough interior span; it does not identify where welds, barrel ends or collar transitions prevent safe support.
Ask for the actual straight support interval and match it to your J-cup spacing, cup width and front lip. Check whether the barrel strikes uprights, safeties, your chest or the rack crossmembers. Confirm a safe catch arrangement for the exact log rather than assuming a standard straight-bar safety setting works unchanged. Our bar-to-rack fit process provides the measurement approach.
48 mm sleeves: plate fit and collar fit differ
The Titan logs use 48 mm sleeves. Olympic plates may fit over them while an ordinary collar does not clamp tightly. Buy a collar whose maker confirms the correct diameter range for this log; a collar described for a 1.9-inch Rogue axle is not automatically approved for every 48 mm product.
Calculate the plate stack using actual widths and leave the required collar space. The 14-inch sleeve on the 12-inch log is 4 inches longer than the 8-inch model’s sleeve. That can matter with thick bumpers even when both share a published load rating. Do not exceed either the physical space or the maker’s permitted loading.
Handling restriction: no floor drops
Titan explicitly states its rackable strongman logs are not meant to be dropped on the floor. This guide does not turn crash pads, bumpers or rubber flooring into permission to drop them. Obtain an approved setup for receiving and storing the log and practice controlled handling within the manufacturer’s limits.
Inspect the welds, handles and sleeve condition before use. Keep the log from rolling into a walkway, and do not leave it balanced on loose blocks or plates. A padded support may protect contact surfaces during storage, but its presence is not a tested dynamic-catch or drop rating.
If your sport requires repeated drops, choose equipment and receiving surfaces explicitly approved for that use. A competing log made from wood or a different steel shell requires its own dimensions, weight, lead time and handling instructions; we have not ranked an unverified alternative above these documented options.
Complete cost and the decision
Complete cost = log + confirmed-compatible collars + plates + approved supports/storage + delivery and tax. The 12-inch log’s checked price is $5.02 below the out-of-stock 10-inch listing, so size is not a reliable price ladder. Do not buy the wrong empty weight or barrel just because of a promotion.
Choose the 8-inch when its 50 lb empty start and closer handles match your purpose. Choose the 10- or 12-inch when that geometry is required and you can control the heavier start. Recheck stock, exact variant and support requirements before payment. For a different specialty implement, see axle bars; for carrying equipment, compare farmer’s handles and yokes.
