Direct answer: Choose by the movement, lever and grip you can control—not dumbbell weight. Fixed clubs simplify setup; adjustable kits consolidate load steps but can change length. Buy a pair only when the program actually uses two clubs.

Choose your next step

The 10 lb model is a documented fixed-club example, not a universal first weight. The 5 lb model currently shows backorder language.

A steel club puts much of its mass beyond the hand in a thick barrel. Lightweight Indian clubs are commonly used for lighter swinging patterns; the name alone does not specify material or weight. A steel mace has a longer shaft and end-heavy head. A dumbbell’s weight near the grip does not reproduce either lever.

Steel clubs: fixed units versus an adjustable kit
Exact model Dimensions / grip Format and progression Cost and purchase gate
Titan 5 LB Steel Club; 430129 14.25-in total; 6-in handle; 26 mm grip; 40 mm barrel. Fixed 5 lb; rounded end knob, flat base. Order quantity is one club, not an identified two-club kit. Manufacturer specifications Live direct data: $74.99; page says backorder. Older search price $39.97 is stale for this check. Confirm timing; no immediate-stock claim.
Titan 10 LB Steel Club; 430130 15.75-in total; 7-in handle; 31 mm grip; 58 mm barrel. Fixed 10 lb. Weight, length and diameter all change from the 5 lb model. Manufacturer specifications $74.97 for one; observed in-stock message. Two at that price = $149.94 before tax. Do not choose this heavier model solely because it is currently orderable.
ADEX Original Handle Club, complete Kit option Maker lists 16-in empty / 28-in fully loaded length; 1-in (25.4 mm) handle. Hand-adjusted threaded system; one handle/threadset, four 5-lb weights, one 2.5-lb and one 1.25-lb weight. Manufacturer specifications Select Kit, not Handle-only. Current page lists 19 settings and 3.5–27.25 lb; older FAQ ranges/increments differ. Confirm configuration; no approved WOD Fever affiliate route or immediate-stock recommendation.

Equal weight does not mean equal handling

The farther the center of mass sits from your hand, the greater the gravitational moment for a given position. Total length, barrel shape and where you hold the handle all matter. This explains why a longer 10 lb implement can feel very different from a compact 10 lb dumbbell; it is not a universal difficulty conversion.

Use the dimensions for the exact weight you are considering. Do not assume every fixed club in a range shares the same handle. Titan’s two examples above change grip diameter as well as mass. An adjustable club can also get longer as sections are added, so the next weight setting may change the lever.

Fixed or adjustable?

Choose a fixed club when you know the working load and value a simple one-piece implement. There are no weight sections to exchange between sets, but progression requires another club and another storage spot. A matched pair requires two appropriate units; it does not mean a single heavy club split between hands.

Compare an adjustable kit when several load steps would otherwise require many fixed clubs. Check the exact locking procedure, supplied weights, full loaded length and whether the system permits your intended patterns. A handle-only price is not a complete adjustable club. Retighten and inspect according to the manufacturer; do not improvise threaded weights or retention parts.

ADEX’s current product detail and older FAQ do not agree on every setting and increment. We therefore do not promise uniform 1.25-lb or 2.5-lb progression. Ask the maker for the current complete kit’s setting chart before paying for a progression range.

How to choose a first size without a universal beginner weight

  1. Identify whether your program uses one hand, two hands on one club, or two separate clubs. Those are different handling demands.
  2. Choose by the exact movement, your prior implement experience, control and available instruction. Barbell strength does not establish club proficiency.
  3. Confirm usable handle length and grip diameter for your hands, including space for two hands if intended. The retention knob does not replace grip control.
  4. Use a supervised trial or the coach’s specified implement when possible. If you cannot evaluate a weight, prioritize a verifiable return route over guessing heavier.
  5. Plan a small repeatable progression. Doubling from 5 to 10 lb is a 100% mass increase, with geometry changes in these Titan examples.

Space, storage and total cost

Clear the entire intended movement arc, including behind and above you. A short standing footprint does not describe a swing envelope. Keep other people, pets and stored equipment outside it. A flat base does not authorize leaving an end-heavy club where it can tip or roll into a walkway.

Price one or two complete clubs, later weight steps, delivery/tax, a suitable storage arrangement and any instruction you need. Titan advertises free shipping, but confirm the destination and current backorder terms. Adjustable kit shipping is quoted separately by its merchant. No unverified Amazon product has been substituted.

Skip the purchase when the goal is ordinary dumbbell strength work already served by your equipment, or when you cannot provide controlled swing clearance. Compare the steel-mace sizing guide for the longer lever. For a grip-specific buying decision, use grippers, pinch and support-grip tools. We make no rehabilitation or injury-prevention claim.
