What is Kinesiology tape?

RockTape (and kinesiology tape) is fairly new to the scene of injury rehab. It was traditionally used by chiropractors in eastern medicine and entered the realm of western medicine at the advent of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, when all participating athletes received free samples. RockTape is applied directly to the body, wrapping around an inflamed joint or tight muscle. Being composed of thin elastic cotton tape, it can stretch up to 180% to maximize range of motion while maintaining its full benefit to the underlying skin.

Kinesiology tape, like RockTape, directly treats injuries by creating a decompressive effect underneath the surface area it covers. The decompressive effect provides multiple benefits. How Do I Apply RockTape?

  1. Clean and dry skin

  2. Cut tape to desired length

  3. Fold tape in half and cut to round off ends (prevents catching on clothing)

  4. Tear tape backing 2" from end

  5. Stretch area to be taped

  6. Anchor the tape with no stretch

  7. Apply tape to affected area

  8. Rub thoroughly to activate adhesive
