A correctly installed rack or pull-up station is part of the usable setup.
Compare rack and bar setupsHanging ab straps support the upper arms while you perform a controlled knee or leg raise. They reduce dependence on a sustained hand grip, but they do not remove shoulder support demands or guarantee comfortable hanging. They are different from lifting straps wrapped around a bar, suspension-trainer handles and a cable crunch strap.

Clearance starts at the supporting bar, not the ceiling
First establish the pull-up bar’s permitted hanging load, attachment method and installation. Then check whether the carabiner gate opens far enough to enclose the intended bar or approved attachment point and closes completely. A connector’s overall length is not its gate opening. The rack, bar, fasteners and supporting wall or doorway must all support the intended movement.
The Gymreapers page lists 18 inches of strap excluding its 6-inch carabiner, but those are not a verified 24-inch vertical drop. Loops fold, padding curves around the arm and the connector overlaps the support. Do not subtract 24 inches from bar height and call the result elbow height.
A practical clearance calculation you can reproduce
Floor clearance = bar height − actual loaded bar-to-elbow drop − elbow-to-lowest-foot distance. Measure the accessory’s installed drop in its intended configuration and the user’s body position; do not use package dimensions. Illustrative inputs: a 90-inch bar, 20-inch actual drop and 58-inch elbow-to-foot distance leave 12 inches. With a 78-inch bar, the same inputs leave 0 inches. These are assumptions, not Gymreapers or Bells of Steel measurements, and they do not include movement or mounting clearance.
Bent knees can change foot clearance but also change the exercise. There must be room to enter and exit without jumping blindly into the slings. Arm-support width, edge pressure, clothing and shoulder position affect fit; a published maximum cannot establish that the support fits your body.
Choose support and cleaning before chasing a rating
Choose a wider hammock when broad support suits your arms, provided entry and attachment work. Choose a documented adjustment mechanism when multiple users need different effective lengths; “adjustable” without a stated range is not a measured fit guarantee. Inspect seams, webbing, padding and connectors before use. Close gates fully and follow the maker’s intended movement; do not assume kipping or weighted dynamic work is approved.
Use the maker’s care instructions. Neither checked page establishes a universal machine-washing or disinfectant protocol. Avoid promising sweat-proof materials or a cleaning chemical’s compatibility. Let damp padding dry, and replace an accessory with damaged stitching, cut webbing or a connector that does not close.
Complete cost and the reason to skip them
For the Bells of Steel continental-US free-shipping offer, the displayed pair gives $57.99 before tax; the Gymreapers $39.99 item is below its displayed $75 free-shipping threshold, so shipping needs a destination quote. Do not buy extra accessories solely to cross a threshold. Include a properly installed supporting station if you do not own one; the straps alone do not create a pull-up setup.
If your power tower already has appropriate supported knee-raise pads, straps may add little. If your support station is the limitation, resolve rack and bar installation first. For a grip-led pulling goal, use weighted pull-up guidance rather than treating ab slings as lifting straps.
