Choose a plate-loaded lat pulldown when you already own suitable plates and want a lower initial machine cost. Choose selectorized when frequent load changes justify the included stack and heavier installation. Titan’s plate-loaded tower is the lower checked standalone price here. Compare its 300 lb selectorized tower and Bells of Steel’s 310 lb stack version for quicker adjustments; confirm full overhead reach before ordering.
Comparisons are based on manufacturer specifications and published product information. US product information checked October 21, 2026. We have not conducted hands-on testing. Prices are dated equipment examples, before tax and any delivery or installation costs.

| Exact standalone option / checked price | Space and resistance | Included / missing equipment | Decision limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Titan Plate-Loaded Lat Tower V2, SKU 400895 $774.99 |
85 H × 47 W × 57 D in; 120 lb machine; 1:1 cable ratio; 400 lb stated plate capacity; 13 in sleeves. | Lat bar, low-row handle and four-position thigh pads described as included. Add suitable plates and retention equipment. | Confirm usable handle travel and seated full extension. Maker recommends bolting down before upright cable rows. |
| Titan Lat Tower 10–300 lb Selector, SKU 400467 $1,649.97 |
87 H × 41 W × 57 D in; 530 lb; 300 lb stack in 10 lb increments; 1:1 high and low pulls. | Lat bar, adjustable thigh pad and footplate. Current details explicitly say low-row handle sold separately. | No extra plate purchase for the supplied stack; include a compatible low-row handle. Plan delivery/assembly of 530 lb equipment. |
| Bells of Steel Lat Pulldown Low Row Machine, 310 lb stack / LAT-MA-SET $2,061.96 |
87 H × 42 W × 70 L in listed envelope; 1:1 lat and row ratio; 310 lb included stack. | Standalone machine with selectorized resistance. Confirm selected-version handles, full assembly inventory and delivery cartons. | The 550 lb max cable claim is not a 550 lb included stack. Longer listed frame than the Titan examples. |
| Bells of Steel plate-loaded / PLT-LAT-MA-SET $869.96 |
Same product family; 450 lb listed plate-loaded cable limit. Check the selected-version drawing. | Requires plates. Separate stack upgrade kit was $1,324.99. | Buying plate-loaded plus the checked upgrade totals $2,194.95, $132.99 more than buying the stack model now. |
Ceiling height and cable travel: two different checks
An 87-inch machine under an 88-inch ceiling is not automatically a workable installation. Confirm assembly clearance above guide rods, top pulley/fastener access, overhead bar position and clearance from lights and garage-door tracks. Use the manufacturer’s assembly sequence before declaring that the frame will fit.
Handle stroke is the distance the cable can move before a stop, collision or full carriage travel. The retrieved pages do not provide a comparable verified stroke for all models. Cable length and overall machine height do not substitute for stroke. Tall users should get a written usable-travel measurement and compare the seat-to-handle start position with their overhead reach. We do not infer fit from a height label or reviewer photograph.
Make the low row usable too
- Check where your feet brace and whether your knees clear the seat or lower structure.
- Allow room for your torso, feet and handle path beyond the printed base footprint.
- Check the permitted handle, clip and extension setup; added chains alter the start position and available travel.
- Confirm thigh-pad reach and restraint during pulldowns. A large stack is not useful if you cannot stay positioned.
Titan’s selectorized page includes a low-handle dimension in its table while explicitly marking the low-row handle sold separately in the details. Treat the explicit inclusion statement as the basket requirement; confirm the carton inventory before payment.
Complete ownership cost
Plate-loaded total = machine + plates you lack + suitable collars/retention + permitted handles + installation + delivery/tax. Selectorized total replaces the plate purchase with the included stack, but may add delivery handling, assembly help and a separate row handle.
Titan’s checked equipment premium from plate-loaded to selectorized is $874.98. Whether that premium makes sense depends on existing plates, how often users change loads and installation cost. Do not compare an existing-plate basket with a new-plate basket without showing the difference.
Both a 300 lb stack and a 400 lb plate capacity can use a 1:1 cable layout; friction and machine geometry still affect feel. Manufacturer ratings are not independently measured exercise loads.
When a rack attachment or alternative is better
If you own a compatible REP PR-4000/PR-5000, price the REP rack lat-pulldown configuration against the missing rack supports and depth/height requirements. It is an attachment, not a standalone substitute at the same bare price. Titan’s T-3/X-3 rack tower similarly has exact base and height restrictions.
For adjustable cable exercises beyond pulldown and row, compare functional trainers and cable machines. For a useful training option without another station, use lat pulldown alternatives. Buy the dedicated tower when its seat, restraint, cable travel and repeated use solve a clear need.
